Mr. Amburn focuses his practice on helping clients protect intellectual property (IP), understand IP rights and resolve complex IP disputes. He has a record of success as a litigator and several years' experience prosecuting patent and trademark applications.

He was selected as a Michigan 2017 "Lawyer of the Year" for Litigation - Patent, and as a 2016 "Lawyer of the Year" for Litigation - Intellectual Property by The Best Lawyers in America®. He was also selected for inclusion in Michigan Leading Lawyers 2014 - 2017 by He was named an "IP Star" by Managing IP magazine 2013 - 2016 and has an AV® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

His publication, IP Strategies for Business Managers, available on Amazon, provides practical advice for protecting IP and avoiding infringement. He contributed to the national publication, Inside the Minds: Litigation Strategies for Intellectual Property Cases (Thomson Reuters, 2012) on topics including patent eligibility of software and business methods, trade secret case strategies, and discovery of electronically stored information (ESI). Recently, he presented the Third Annual Patent Camp at the MidMichigan Innovation Center. He also recently presented an IP webinar for Vet Biz Central. In addition, he presented an IP Law Update to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Mr. Amburn is the inventor on four patents relating to an automated securities trading system including a patent that issued in 2014.
