Mr. Reid is a native of Springfield, Illinois. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois, Florida, Georgia, and the U.S. Tax Court. Prior to opening his own firm in 1995, he practiced law with Brown, Hay and Stephens and the Internal Revenue Service's Office of Chief Counsel. During his tenure as an attorney for the IRS, he was the national coordinator for a tax shelter project and a special assistant U.S. attorney for bankruptcy. He was also involved in extensive litigation on behalf of the IRS in U.S. Tax Court. He is a commissioner in the Court of Claims for Illinois, and he conducts an active law practice.
Mr. Reid received a J.D. in 1983 from the University of Miami. He received an LLM taxation degree in 1992 from Emory University. He received an MBA from Florida International University and a master of public administration from Sangamon State University, now known as the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Notable Cases and Results:
Successfully litigated a national case in 1990 for the Office of Chief Counsel, IRS in U.S. Tax Court against a textile manufacturer and the textile industry which sought to depreciate "assembled work force" and which led to a change in depreciation and amortization tax laws.
Represented the comptroller, State of Illinois as a special assistant attorney general in a national bankruptcy case involving a funeral industry leader and enforced compliance with state laws. Case No. 99-1244 (PJW) U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware.)
